Why is the coronary artery calcium scan done on an individual?

The coronary calcium scan is carried out on an individual in cases where there are risk factors associated with heart disease. It can be also done for those at medium risk i.e.

Two years ago, Democrats, along with a handful of Republicans, used a defense bill as a vehicle for overturning the policy that prevented gays and lesbians from serving openly in the military. Republican opponents of DADT repeal?accused Democrats of using the military to pursue a “social agenda.” But ever since, Republicans have used defense bills to further their social agenda?one contingent on limiting the rights and recognition of gay and lesbian servicemembers who are now allowed to serve openly.

Last year, Republicans tried to prevent military chaplains from conducting same-sex marriages for servicemembers?even if they wanted to. The GOP?ultimately caved?in that fight, but two amendments to this year’s defense bill represent even more aggressive attacks on gay rights.

The first, by Rep. Todd Akin (R-Mo.), purports to protect the freedom of “conscience” of servicemembers and chaplains by saying they can’t be disciplined for their views on “appropriate and inappropriate expression of human sexuality.” Akin’s website boasts that he has “led the fight back against gay marriage on military bases.” ?

Ian Thompson, a legislative representative with the American Civil Liberties Union, says Akin’s amendment “potentially opens the floodgates to giving a green light to discrimination against gay and lesbian servicemembers.” A senior defense official affirmed that the amendment could “wreak havoc on good order and discipline,” and “invite harassment of sexual minorities by their peers.”

Akin?s amendment also states that chaplains can’t be forced to perform “any duty, rite, ritual, ceremony, service, or function do anything contrary to their religious beliefs,” which could cause broader problems because chaplains are frequently called upon to provide support to members of other faith groups.

“Chaplains by their very nature are required to be pluralistic, they?re committed to provide spiritual care for all of their servicemembers,” says Army Col. Paul W. Dodd (Ret.) a former chaplain who is now co-chairman of the Forum on Military Chaplaincy, a group supported the repeal of DADT. “They have a commitment to care for all of the troops, whether they happen to be in their particular denomination or not.”

Akin’s amendment is presumably intended to prevent chaplains from being forced to perform same-sex marriage ceremonies. But a previous defense bill wrote into law the Defense Department?s stated policy that no chaplain can be compelled to officiate a same-sex marriage.?

Likewise, current Defense Department policy prohibits the use of military facilities for same-sex marriages in jurisdictions where such unions are illegal. An amendment from Rep. Steven Palazzo (R-Miss.), however, bans base facilities from being used for same-sex marriage ceremonies at all, even in jurisdictions that have extended marriage rights to gays and lesbians. Because of the federal Defense of Marriage Act, servicemembers in same-sex relationships are already denied a slew of benefits afforded to heterosexual couples (even unmarried ones).

Presiding over the committee shepherding the bill is Rep. Howard “Buck” McKeon (R-Calif.). McKeon?criticized Democrats for “weighing down” defense bills with their “social agenda” when they were in the majority. But after assuming the chairmanship of the House Armed Services Committee, he has helped facilitate Republican efforts to undermine the repeal of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell, supporting amendments to defense bills that LGBT rights advocates say sanction discrimination against gay, lesbian and bisexual servicemembers.

McKeon has a long history of hostility to gay rights. During his first campaign for Congress in 1992, he returned $350 dollars in donations from the pro-gay rights Log Cabin Republicans, saying, “I think that, politically in this district, taking money from gays is just not a smart thing to do.” Shortly after being elected, he fought President Bill Clinton?s Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell compromise that allowed gay and lesbian servicemembers to serve if they stayed in the closet. When Obama sought to repeal that policy, McKeon fought to keep it in place. McKeon’s advocacy hasn’t been limited to military matters?his campaign donated five thousand dollars to the supporters of Proposition 8, the ballot initiative that banned same-sex marriage in California.

“He ranks among the worst of the worst when it comes to LGBT issues,” says Michael Cole Schwartz, a spokesman for the Human Rights Campaign, an LGBT rights group.

Last year McKeon told a C-SPAN interviewer that it was “worth not having a defense authorization bill” if it meant undermining the federal ban on same-sex marriage. This time, however, his spokesman wasn’t willing to go that far.

“It’s premature to start laying down markers,” McKeon spokesman Claude Chafin said. “We need to pass the bill out of the House first.” That vote is scheduled for Thursday. But even if Akin and Palazzo’s amendments fail to make it into the final bill, the House GOP’s war against the rights of gay and lesbian servicemembers seems to be here to stay.

The investigation by Milwaukee County‘s district attorney hasn’t resonated with voters, but with the June 5 recall less than three weeks away Democrats have started playing up questions about why Walker created a criminal defense fund for himself and whether the governor might face charges next.

Walker has branded the strategy a “cheap political stunt,” but Democrats are banking that the tactic will help them curry favor with the dwindling pool of undecided voters who could turn the election.

“The public deserves some answers as they try to decide who to vote for,” said Jeremy Levinson, an attorney for the state Democratic Party. “He just needs to explain what’s going on. It’s that simple.”

Republicans say Democrats are grasping for an edge as polls show Walker pulling ahead of Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett. The most recent Marquette University Law School poll, released Wednesday, showed Walker leading by 6 percentage points after the race was essentially a dead heat a month ago.

“When you’re down or your message isn’t playing the way you want it to in a tight race, you’ve got to find something else,” said Brandon Scholz, a Madison lobbyist who has worked on a number of GOP congressional races across the country. “You’ve got to change that message and find something that sticks.”

The push to recall Walker began last year after he championed a contentious law stripping most public sector workers of nearly all their collective bargaining rights. Democrats called it an all-out attack on organized labor, but Barrett’s easy primary victory over an opponent backed by most of the state’s major unions signaled the momentum for the collective bargaining argument may have started to fade.

Barrett moved on to beating up Walker over his inability to create jobs, harping on a U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics report that found Wisconsin lost the most jobs of any state between March 2011 and March 2012.

Meanwhile, Milwaukee County District Attorney John Chisholm has been quietly investigating Walker’s associates during the governor’s tenure as Milwaukee County executive. Chisholm, a Democrat, has set the probe up as a so-called John Doe proceeding, meaning his prosecutors can subpoena witnesses and compel them to testify while barring them from speaking publicly about the case. Five people have been charged so far on allegations ranging from embezzling money from a veterans trust fund to campaigning on county time.

Walker has insisted he’s not a target, saying he learned honesty as an Eagle Scout and his county office even alerted Chisholm to the embezzlement.

Nobody has given any indication when the investigation might end or who else it might ensnare. Walker’s state spokesman, Cullen Werwie, has testified in exchange for immunity that the governor disclosed he had created a legal defense fund using campaign contributions. Wisconsin law allows officeholders to create such funds only if they or their agents are being investigated or have been charged with campaign or election violations.

Walker has said he formed the fund to cover “expenses incurred in cooperating with the inquiry,” but he hasn’t elaborated on the probe.

Barrett, who has been jabbing the governor on the investigation for weeks, said Wednesday that Walker needs to clear the air because “when people realize what’s going on, they’re troubled by it.”

Still, the issue hasn’t seemed to have gripped voters. Marquette polls conducted since February have consistently shown most people either regard the investigation as politics as usual or don’t know enough about it to form an opinion about whether it’s truly serious.

“Either he’s being investigated or he expects to be charged,” said Sachin Chheda, who chairs the Milwaukee Democratic Party. “What kind of position would the state be in if we don’t know the facts, there’s an election and there’s an indictment after the election?”

Dick Frasser, a 74-year-old retired fire inspector from Watertown, said he plans to vote for the governor in the recall, despite the investigation.

“It’s typical politics,” Frasser said. “Ethically and morally, I suppose he does (need to explain his part in the probe). But they should do this after the election. Prior to it, they’re digging up all the dirt they can.”

The liberal attack group Greater Wisconsin Committee launched a television ad last week questioning how Walker didn’t know what his county employees were doing, and Barrett sent Walker a letter Tuesday demanding he disclose any advice state election officials may have given him that led to him forming his defense fund.

Walker campaign manager Ciara Matthews said in a statement that Barrett is resorting to political stunts to deflect voters’ attention from high unemployment in Milwaukee and his refusal to explain how he would manage the state budget. She didn’t address the investigation itself.

Asked Wednesday whether the governor was under investigation, Matthews responded by pointing to remarks Walker has made to the media since January saying people are twisting things, he’s not the target of the investigation and he agreed to meet with Chisholm to discuss the investigation.

Scholz, the former Republican operative, said Walker has nothing to gain by responding directly to Barrett. Democrats have run out of issues and are merely trying to put Walker’s camp on defense, he said.

“When you’re down or your message isn’t playing the way you want it to in a tight race, you’ve got to find something else,” Scholz said. “You’ve got to scratch for an issue. A John Doe is sexy. They’ll just throw it out there. If they can force the other side to lose a half-day, that’s what they’ll do.”

I have been reading all of the threads about the news of drew and I departing from compLexity and I was moved by the amount of comments hoping that ROOT would come back, so we decided not to wait a second longer.

I can?t think of a better way to do this than with an interview, so here we go!

MeanCatZ:?I am not great at interviews so my questions will be sort of raw and perhaps uncomfortable for you to answer. ROOT Gaming huh?, that name was tabu for a while, sort of like Voldemort, I must admit it was my favorite team at one point, but? why now?

ROOTCatZ Well i?ll be completely honest, I never wanted to disband ROOT in the first place but the circumstances before didn?t really make it easy for us to stick around, I feel like now we?re a bit more comfortable financially and have gained a lot of experience to make it work, why now now? well because we couldn?t wait any longer.

MeanCatZ:?Is this something that you, drewbie and the rest of the guys have been planning for a while or is it a last minute kind of thing?

ROOTCatZ:?We have a ROOT Gaming chat on skype, for a few months now, we?ve been talking about this day and making plans to re launch for a long while, figuring out the logistics and making plans to make this team unique and successful in the eSports scene, we all missed ROOT so much. We couldn?t really talk or hint about this any what sooner though, as we were under contract to a team (compLexity) that has been great to us and we have great respect for, so we had to wait until our contract was over, at least we owed them that much, shoutout to them for being awesome.

ROOTCatZ:?ITS AWESOME isnt it?! I wish I had drawn that, but no, the mascot was drawn by?Alex Tingey?(@highboo69420BBQ on twitter), an extremely talented artist, based on the original design. Alex devoted many hours consulting me and making drafts of potential mascots, when we found ?the one? we tweaked it a bunch and came up with this final product. Later on I added the typography, the shield and the rest of the logo to compliment it. I first saw Alex?s art on reddit, drawing of a stalker getting chased by marines, I fall in love with his style of drawing and thought to myself, this guy could do a better job than I could, so I stalked him a bit and he was kind enough to not just help us out in this process but also he was excited while doing this, without asking for anything in return. please tweet at him and thank him on behalf of ROOT!

MeanCatZ:?Nice. So a bit of an uncomfortable question, ROOT ?failed? once before, what has changed this time around that makes you think it?ll work this time around?

ROOTCatZ:?Thank you for asking that, last time we held together for a year+ thanks to the community we had behind us. We came close to getting PokerStars as our main sponsor but then it went down in the US, and with that, our last hope went down the drain, it just didn?t make much sense financially and despite us all loving the team we couldn?t really afford to live off of the game we love while staying and devoting time to ROOT. Now we?re in a much better place, and we?re doing things more calmly, now we realize we can?t do this on our own, we realize we need help of more experienced people. The logo is an example of that, I am a very proud person and my ego isnt exactly small I mean, im interviewing myself? but drewbie and I now realize we need help of people who can do a better job than us, and so we?re seeking it, Alex is a better Artist than I am, period. My close friend?Diego Acosta, will be part owner of ROOT , you?ll see him on my stream sometimes. Diego?s not just a great friend of mine but he?s also a business major from a very prestigious school, and so he will be handling the majority of the business side of the team. Hell, even Jason Lake of compLexity was kind enough to offer us free advice if we ever needed it, I know we will, and when we do, we won?t be afraid to ask. In that sense we?ve grown more humble and aware that there?s always people who know more, so arrogance and ego will have to be thrown to the side when it comes to the good and success of the team.

MeanCatZ:?Cool Speech man LOL, seems like you?ve thought this through, but if you?re trying like you say to ?do everything right? this time around. I don?t think announcing a team that doesn?t even have an operational website is the best business decision, what do you have to say to that?

ROOTCatZ:?Nice? LOL, I don?t know how, but I just KNEW you were gonna ask that next. Well, we talked about this a lot, you see ROOT is not a brand new team that?s popping out of nowhere, we already have a following, and we owed everything to the sc2 community. You see none of us were really big or famous players when ROOT was created, we were built based on talent and personalities, and it is the community that accepted us and made us their own, made us big and made us who we are today as gamers. ROOT was sort of a team ?of the people for the people? you know? haha. We don?t expect to get 5 sponsors in a couple months by any means. But we will need volunteers to help us run the team website for example, moderate our streams, help us with banners, writing articles and become a part of something bigger in eSports doing something that they enjoy. This would be much harder for us to assemble a team such as this from ?the shadows? and we know this.

MeanCatZ:?fair enough, now? this isn?t the beta anymore man, things have changed arround here, do you think ROOT has what it takes to compete at the highest level of sc2? do you think that you can be appealing as a team for sponsors in this sense?

ROOTCatZ: If not now, I think that in the near future, definetly. We built up ROOT based on scouting potential and building it up and it became the best team in NA, so I am confident that our squad is full of potential, I think that if we can?t beat the best teams, we?ll make sure to try our best to put up a good fight and a hell of a show. As of for sponsors, I think that we can be appealing regardless, as our team now has some popular players with large followings that can provide as much exposure as any team out there, I feel like personality and authenticity won?t be an issue at ROOT gaming.

I will also hold my hand up to not having always been whiter than white in some of my relationships. Therefore this post is not meant to be judgemental, mainly observational with a strong nudge towards thought and questioning at the end. So, ?a fair affair?. It?s an oxymoron. It isn?t possible to have a ?fair? affair. The very nature of an affair involves lying, deceit, actions that fly in the face of fairness.

Affairs did not start happening because of the internet. I wouldn?t be at all surprised if, back in the Stone Age, one caveman probably snuck off from the hunt to visit someone else?s cave (possibly a euphemism). Through the ages, the importance of sexual fidelity has waxed and waned. Produce a legitimate heir, maybe a back-up one just in case then, so long as you?re discreet, off you go!

However it?s 2012. I don?t know how many of us are on the internet. Figures published today say that there are 10 million active users of Twitter in the UK, out of 140 million users worldwide (other social media sites are available) but it?s pretty clear that the escalation of the internet usage and social media have hugely increased the potential to have an illicit liaison or three.

Recently I thought two people I follow on Twitter were having an affair. One is single, the other married with children. I have subsequently found out I was wrong in part. The married one is having an affair, just not with who I thought, and is sending at times vile tweets about their domestic situation coupled with the cryptic, wistful ?I wish you were here? style of tweets. Of course, it is none of my business but it makes me sad; sad they are so scathing about their partner and also sad that they are using Twitter as a means to fuel their flirtation.

I see a lot of those kind of tweets. I?m sure you do too. The half-veiled comments, the little in-jokes, the banter. Anyone who has ever worked in an office where two people are getting involved will have seen this time and time again. Now a bit of banter is fine. Healthy, probably. But there is a line. And when it slips over to emotionally engaging with a person when you are already attached I think that line is crossed. And as for the physical? However you dress it up, you are cheating on the person you profess to love. If you?re married then you?re likely cheating on the person you promised to ?love, honour and obey?. That ?with my body I thee worship? line? Yeah, think about it. Along with ?forsaking all others?. It means no having it off with anyone else. Obviously other and alternative vows are used too but I?ve never been to any kind of marriage service that didn?t have fidelity as one of the central themes.

Now I have good cause to know affairs, emotional and physical, happen for all sorts of reasons; loneliness, emotional cruelty, neglect. Also because people are greedy, selfish, promiscuous, the list goes on. It?s another of my firmly held beliefs that ultimately they happen because people are either trying to fill a void or ignore a problem. Either way these actions hurt people. They hurt friends, they hurt family, they hurt loved ones, they hurt children. I also believe that acting in a lying and deceitful manner, especially if you think it?s justified, is incredibly damaging to the self.

If you think what you are doing is just a bit of fun then think how you would feel if you found your other half was engaging in such behaviour behind your back. And if you are deep into something then please have a look at your reasons. Chances are everyone in the situation deserves better.
